Blackmagic 3G-SDI Arduino Shield

https://www.blackmagicdesign.com/media/release/20160418-03

Hopefully with this I'll be a step closer to having  wireless CC from the ATEM.  Nice one BlackMagic!!

Blackmagic 3G-SDI Arduino Shield

Would be nice to use it as a more generic interface as well. Eliminating CAT cables in multi-camera (PTZ) setups.

I would like to send a RS-422 protocol over the SDI line and read it out again at the other side. So imagine an SDI Arduino kit on both ends of the SDI. Having the full communication of PTZ camera's to the controller.

Does anyone see limitiations to built this once such a SDI Arduino shield is there? Any risk the video signal will be infuenced?

I suspect it will be possible

I suspect it will be possible to write whatever you like into the SDI Aux data with this module. It's possible that BMD may of chosen to limit you to their own command set but even then you could simply pack your PTZ commands into their format and then unpack at the other end.

I'm exited to see BMD supporting DIY hardware like this. It throws open some interesting possibilities.

Yeah this is quite

Yeah this is quite exciting.

The example given is for controlling BMD cameras with other devices so embeddding data.

What I would be really interesting in is if it works the other way and can use the ATEM CCU to control other cameras.

I have no idea if these things work both ways though.

The ability to embed and de-embed SDI Aux data would open up a lot of possibiliies.

CC in & out

That's exactly what I hope! That it can decode CC data from the SDI in and you can write new data to the SDI out.

For example, Read CC data from the ATEM SDI output - manipulate data in the Arduino - Write new CC data to the shield SDI output.

Now Available

FYI...

The Blackmagic 3G-SDI Arduino Shield is now available to buy and the software is available too.

FUN!

For those who are interested,

For those who are interested, we already created a product based on this shield which is now online as an IndieGoGo campaign to kickstart production! It's called RCP at IndieGoGo and found at http://igg.me/at/rcp

It's likely that we will post some general review videos about the shield on our YouTube channel soon too.

We have also confirmed that data can be read by the shield and we can insert our own packets too.

Data can be read from the SDI

Data can be read from the SDI input??  Like the CC commands send from an ATEM?

I'm assuming therefore you could intercept a CC command from an ATEM, alter it, and send the altered version out to the camera?

That's big news!

Thanks Kasper.

Fingers Crossed for the future, as with Send and / or Recieve it becomes a much more interesting product.
