BG-Connect The Echolab panel to Atem control bridge

Hello guys,

Some of you already followed my progress in the Echolab communication profile topic on this website:

http://www.atemuser.com/forums/atem-vision-mixers/developers/echolab-com...

We developed a hardware protocol converter that is able to Connect the Echolab panel to the BMD Atem mixer series.

At the point of writing the basic functions are supported and we are busy to develop on and integrate new features in future firmware updates.

We have a broadcast company ourselfs and will be using these Echolab panels too as a cost effective solution for the more expensive BMD mixers.

But also because we can control and program the functions behind every button, every lcd.. We can include functions that are not possible on the official panel.

The Connect_Echo has some extra communication ports for future use and development (MIDI, RS422, Micro SD card)

Also it has a DB25 connector with 8 buffered Tally outputs and 8 General Purpose inputs to trigger something.   At the moment we are still looking into how we will make the configuration on these I/O available to the users so you can config them yourselfs..   But at this moment we will put the Tally output to channel 1-8 and the GPI to 1-8 Preview selection.   This will be configurable at a later stadium when we update the firmware with new functions to do this.

The functions we have up and running are:

  • Program row
  • Preview row
  • Aux row
  • T-Bar
  • up and downstream Keyers on/off
  • Sourcenames on mini LCD's

So basically the lower half of the panel works.

The upper half (12 Smart keys, Joystick, advanced LCD functions are not yet available.  But we are working hard to get those functions up and running soon.)

Specifications:

  • 2x BNC to connect to Echolab panel
  • 1x RJ45 Ethernet 10/100Mbit
  • 1x SD Card holder
  • 1x DB25 - 8x Tally output, 8x General purpose input / 1x RS422 port (future use)
  • 1x MiniDin Midi port (future use)
  • Supply: 5volt mini USB
  • Dimensions: 130x80x30mm

Currently we only support the Echolab Identity 4 panels.   The Overture 1 panels will be supported too but takes some more work as they changed the communication protocol. So for the Overture panels we have more work to do to get them up and running.   But we will keep you posted on the progress in this topic.

You can order the product from our webshop.  We have 10 pieces in stock for sale at this moment. But we are waiting for 1 part to come in yet. So you can order and pay now.  The first 10 orders will be shipped out in week 39 (last week of September).

After that we have to start up production again as we did not have the funds to make a batch of 30 or so right from the start.    So after those 10 are shipped it will take a week or 2 / 3 before we have stock again.

Orders can be made here>  http://www.thewillows.nl/Shop-BG/nl/control-gear/143-bg-con-echo-bg-conn...

So please be patient for those early adopters that we need those 2 weeks to get the parts in.

If you have any feature requests or questions please put them in this topic or email me by the email button of this forum.

Feature Wishlist

So there will be features that you guys like to have. And there will be a certain amount of features i can implement.

But here is a list of features and options i have high on my priority list for now:

- Feedback on the tbar leds (That led bar near the Tbar. )

- Cofigure IP settings via the LCD screen

- Control Visca camera's with the joystick and keypad near the joystick.  (We have a 422 port on the Connect to make a direct connection to the cameras.  Including presets set and recall  ;)

- Get the Overture 1 and Overture 2 panels up and running

- Getting the 12 Smart buttons under control so we can make Menu's and more settings on the smart buttons.

- Make button mapping available

- Make it possible to trigger a macro or sequence with a button ( Start play when hitting the source )

If you have features you would like to have please let me know and i will see what is possible.

Congrats

Nice job and fairly price, I find.

Now, I just need an Identity 4 panel and that little box :D
