Which ATEM?

Hi,

I'm looking for advice on which current ATEM model would best fit my needs and be the most cost effective. I plan to control it with JustMacros and XKeys.

The requirements are

IMAG mix output:
1 HDMI input, 4 SDI inputs, media player, cut, disolve, dip

Livestream mix output:
1 HDMI input (same input as above), 4 SDI inputs (same inputs as above), media player, cut, disolve, dip, PIP, DSK

I've read through the Blackmagic website and also the manual but it's not clear to me which model would be the best fit. Is a 2 M/E required or ccould a cheaper model be setup to do this?

Thanks in advance.

you need at least a 2 M/E

you need at least a 2 M/E product to have 2 seperate outputs with dissolve capability.

or use two seperate single M/E products, with possibly a videohub to share inputs between the 2 switchers. you would have to load the media players seperately in this case

Another option would be to go

Another option would be to go with two ATEM's with a Video Hub or some other router. This will require two separate control surfaces most likely however unless JM has support for multiple switchers.

Thanks

That's helpful thank-you.

So when Blackmagic say a mixer has 1 or 2 M/Es this isn't in addition to the basic preview/program mix you get on say the cheapest TV Studio?

BMD counts the PVW/PGM busses

BMD counts the PVW/PGM busses as an ME, so minus one ME from the name of their products, at least to my way of thinking. Shame, you could do so much more if they had a real PVW/PGM. Another annoying limitation is one DVE per switcher, reguardless of how many MEs you have.

If you want dissolve on

If you want dissolve on both, with totally independent mix then 2 M/E is required. I do this most Sundays using a the 1 M/E broadcast panel and X-keys to control the 2 M/E.

With all ATEM hardware you only get 1 DVE so 1 PiP. The 2 M/E  has supersource (up to 4 PiP) so I guess you can use that for 1 PiP and DVE USK for the other.

I could almost do it with a 1 M/E (including TVS HD) and use an Aux out for the live stream as the live stream only gets a different mix during preaching and at that time we only do cuts. Other times I could just set the Aux to be the program out and it would show the dissolves.
