unable to use ME 2 PGM as source in ME 1

Hi,

Wanted to use a third upstream key and since this is greyed out in ME 1, I went to ME 2 to prepare one of the two USK's send it to ME 2 PGM in order to use it as source in the ME 1. I can see the result of keying in the preview rail, but I can't select it somehow. When I press the ME 2 PGM button, it's only visible for a split second.

If this is not the way, what would be an alternative to using a third Upstream Key?

Is it not possible anyway to use the ME 2 Program result as a source in ME 1?

It would be a great help if somebody knows the answer(s).

Thanks in advance.

(Using an ATEM 2 M/E Production Studio K along with a Mac Pro and a Mix-iT)

video out to in

Hi Ed

If you feed the output back into the input and route that input to the output... you'll get video howl round similar to an audio amplifier taking off.

Hi David,

Thanks for your answer.

If this would be the case, I should have a video "howl" for a spilt second. Non of this is happening. Like I described before, the result of the effects in ME2 (keying in this case) is visible in the preview of ME 1, but I cannot select it, I only see it for a split second in the Program View of ME1. For your understanding: I didn't connect anything at the back of the Atem. No looping from ME1 preview to any input by SDI cable.

Considering the 4 upstream key's, 2 available in ME1 and 2 in ME2, it must be possible.

Ed

ME1 PVW not selectable as source in ME2

Hi all,

Still I think it's strange that it appears to be impossible to cut to a source from the other ME, but ... I just found a solution myself.

Like David already stated: It is possible to (hardware) loop back the output from ME1 PGM to one of the inputs, and then select it as a source. The only difficulty is that switching to the (now) three keyed camera's is a bit of a hassle. Again I found a solution to that by putting the ME1 PGM into one of the DSK's (you can even do that without looping from out- to input). Because I wanted to keep my two DSK's available for e.g. titles, I looked at the macro's. I made 4 macro's for switing back and fro between the three keyed camera's.

Voila!

If there is somebody who knows better ways, I'll be happy to hear them.

Regards, Ed

Of course you can select ME2

Of course you can select ME2 Program on ME1. If your screen is small you might need to use SHIFT to access the source, but when run full-screen ME2 is the top right most button in the source selction button panel next to COLOUR SOURCE 1.

Although you would need a loopback to use ME1 as a source on ME2, you shouldn't strictly speaking be doing this, as you could potentially create a video feedback problem. Using ME2 TX is not a problem and completely standard practice.
