BMD ATEM Production Studio 4K & Beringer X-Air 12 - no sound synchronicity :-(

@ Forum

Hello to all ATEM users in the World from Austria!

My Name is Alex and I have many many questions about the ATEM Production Studio 4K and other devices. Let's start with the first Question ;-)

My setup is as written in the Headline I have a BMD ATEM Production Studio 4K & Beringer X-Air 12 connected via two XLR Cables from the X-Air 12 Audio Output to the ATEM Analog Audio Input. My Problem is now, that when I produce a Diskussion with 3 Cameras, I have a "delay" of about 3-4 Frames betweem Audio & Video. The Video of course is later than the Audio. So all the recorded Videos on a BMD HyperDeck Studio mini are not Lip-Synced! ;-(

So for now I have to correct the LipSync Problem with FinalCut Pro X and that is very silly for me, because I have to do it for every File of course!

Does anyone has approximately the same configuration and can help me to correct this problem please? I wrote many other Articles here in the Forum, also about that particular Theme, but I didn't found any real Answer. Is it possible to solve it with the Beringer X-Air 12 it self? Please help me - Thank you very much!

Thank you for your Answers!
Best wishes from Austria.
Alex

You can use a Behringer DEQ

You can use a Behringer DEQ 2496 or any other line delay since it seems your X-Air 12 can´t set any delay.

It could also be a problem with your Hyperdeck Studio - try a search for "Hyperdeck Studio delay" at google.

Hi Alex. It seems, you

Hi Alex. It seems, you changed from editing in the post produchtion to a live editing. The recorded videofiles have audio and video in sync, but most cameras habe a delay at their HDMI live out (SDI not). The audio comes with no delay into the ATEM. So you get audio before video. If your audio mixing console can't delay, you need a separate delay unit like the Behringer DEQ, placed between audio mixing console and ATEM input.

answer to thos-berlin

hello thos-berlin

The dely is also at the recording, but I also see it at the preview Monitor.  I have 3 Cameras connected all three via HDMI.
The delay is also via SDI. Why do you think there is no delay via SDI? The signal processing is also at the ATEM mixer.
In both ways HDMI & SDI, the video signal has to be processed over the ATEM and therefore we have the delay, becaus of the processing.
What do you think?

X-Air 12 has a delay in the

X-Air 12 has a delay in the effects, you can use that on a channel to delay the audio to sync.

Done this quite a few times.

I have my own TV Show, Player Attack. I also film live music, its fun!!!

When I wrote "The recorded

When I wrote "The recorded Files... are in sync" I meant, that the recorded files inside (!) the cameras are in sync. This is the reason, I asked for your old and new production workflow.

Most Cameras with HDMI out are not desigend for usage as live camera. So they have a processing time of some frames. A lot (but not all) SDI cameras were made for live usage, so the delay ist less.

An ATEM adds a delay of one frame in maximum (! - statisticlal a half), two when DVEs are used. By the way: your Monitor alos adds a delay. So when you do live editing, and monitors video with your monitor and monitors audio direct from the mixing console, you add monitors delay in your awareness.

Sometimes, I work in a studio with Tricasters and they also have delay. The audio console must delay for 5 frames. It is normal in. So record a test with a clapperboard to detect the delay and use a delay effect in your mixing console or (when the audio is playd back to the studio) a separate unit like the Behringer DEQ.

easy solution

i had the same problem.
I then used 2 aux out of the behringer x-air with xlr to mini jack 3.5mm and connected it to one of the hdmi cameras "mic in" 3.5mm input.
but i had to reduce the output level of the behringers aux because it was to much.
My "mic in" on the camera is not a line level.
I Think i used -6db to -8db for the aux.

Effect settings

I have seen another work around.
1. Use Aux5 and Aux6 parallel as l-r output. Then use one of the 4 effects with the "Stereo Tap Delay" effect.
Use the "INSERT" button at the Stereo Tap Delay effect and select Bus5 and Bus 6.
Then you can use the Knob "Time" on the left side of the effect for ms/sec delaying...

...and the Knob Offset LR in middle position and the knobs Feed L and Feed R  to zero.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I also spoke with the Behringer Support, and they told me that they will may be implement a delay funktion in a future firmware.

We will see what this realy will be? They sayed many others have asked about this feature on the X-Air Series.

Audio Sync

I know everyone mentioned the stereo delay so hopefully this video helps solve the Video / Audio delay issues.
